The last year has not been business as usual for the OU-JLIC community in downtown Manhattan led by Rabbi Joe Wolfson and Corinne Shmuel. A year of crisis. But also a year of unprecedented opportunity. A year in which we became more convinced than ever of the critical importance of our work.
Our efforts can be summed up with two principle achievements:
– Killing COVID With Kindness: the largest Jewish campus mobilization to meet the crisis head on, mobilizing hundreds of students and young professionals to tackle everything from hunger to loneliness to illiteracy to support for first responders.
– Keeping the Jewish student community downtown alive and safe amidst the tumult of the pandemic. Where the community might have disappeared, instead today we have vibrant and safe Jewish life in the form of daily services, weekly classes, social events, celebration of Shabbat and festivals, welcoming of freshmen and honoring of seniors.
For these two reasons – because our community is good for its members and good for the world – we ask for your support and partnership.
